Our Shaped Chinese Elm Bonsai are Back in Stock!

Our Shaped Chinese Elm Bonsai are back in stock and we can’t wait to see you get creative with these beautiful trees!

Perfect for beginners and Bonsai enthusiasts alike, this special tree is native to East Asia and has been cultivated in miniature form to bring tranquillity, creativity, and inspiration to your indoor spaces. This semi-evergreen tree is an ideal choice for those starting out because it is slow-growing and tolerant, allowing beginners plenty of time and forgiveness to grow accustomed to Bonsai care.

Like most Bonsai trees, Chinese Elms need a lot of light. Direct morning sunlight is great for almost all Bonsai because of its low intensity, so choose a room that gets the most light during the day. Keep in mind that, during warm months, the direct afternoon sun through a standard household window can burn delicate leaves. As a general rule, bright positions with indirect sunlight will be perfect for this little Bonsai.

During the winter months your Chinese Elm will require less water. In the spring and summer, it may need water every day depending on the location and climate of its position. Watering cycles will vary, but we generally recommend weekly watering. Get to know when your tree needs watering by observing its foliage, picking up the moss ball and feeling if it is light or heavy to touch. The drier the tree, the lighter it will feel, so bear this in mind.

As Chinese Elms are naturally deciduous, they shed leaves in the Autumn/ Winter period. Also, it is not uncommon for the leaves to turn yellow and shed when moved to a new location. Given the right conditions they should re-grow. For more care tips, fertilising and pruning advice, visit the Bonsai Care section on our website under ‘plant care’.
